Mediterranean
Out of the blue
Submitted by rshankar on Mon, 21/01/2008 - 14:25. Bandra | Elite Restaurant | Continental | Italian | Mediterranean | Must Visit | Rich and FamousThese guys take the food business very seriusly and it shows in the final product that lands on the table.
One of the finest pasta I 've ever eaten. Every strand of the spaghetti in white sauce reminds me of heaven. Sheer magic.
Do try their Charcoal grilled stuffed mushrooms.
the honey mint ice tea was a royal way to wash these delicacies down your throat.
Watch out for that waiter 'Devendiran'. He is really good. Knows his stuff and honest.
Planning to go there again to try something new vegetarian.
Sumac
Submitted by epicurean on Sun, 08/07/2007 - 14:06. Sydney | Bar | Restaurant | Lebanese | Mediterranean | Seafood | Must VisitIf you are visiting Sydney , out of the aquarium and want to halt for some good food , Sumac is a great pick.
We had ordered breads with mix dips plate, a pizza, stuffed vegetables and greek salad along with some drinks.
First the food, all the dips were perfect if not very distinct since i thought the eggplant dip would have a different taste. The hummus was brilliant! Eating them with some great variety of breads , the quantity looked like a disappointment!
The stuffed veggies had potato, tomato and capsicum with rice and couscous. Both the tomato and capsicum stuffings were yummy but potato combination with couscous was a little flavor-less.
The pizza was the most liked with again the bread base scoring high and the topping was ideal! The greek salad was as good(nothing different although).
I did not try the seafood but am assuming that going by the look of the things and what other people were being served , it would be worth a try. Funnily, some female waitress dropped the tray while serving lobsters and even those dropped creatures looked exotic and edible!
Coming to drinks, since my other companions had ordered normal juices which were good , i just thought of asking if they had any mock tails since it was not listed. They asked me to name it and they will make it. I hit a blind shot with 'Virgin Pinacolada' and it came perfectly made on my table.

The ambience and decor was eye catchy as well and with the coastline location of the place, the cuisine, some arabic music was all appetising :)

Bangalore | Residency Road | Restaurant | MediterraneanAfter some 3 months, me & wife decided to go out for dinner and wanted to try a new place (new for us!!). I had read about this restaurant some months back and decided to land there. When i called them to check whats on the menu.. the manager said we have international food with Mutton Vindaloo, Chicken Tikka and other international food on buffet. I was skeptical...but went on.
We walked in at about 0730PM with about 3 / 4 people in the restaurant.. which again put me off. After a cursory walk across the buffet spread we settled on Al a carte.
We decided to skip the salads & soups.. but they did make for a interesting read. They had a selection of warm & cold soups / salads. We ordered Pita crisps with 3 different type of dips and Kalametta Olives seasoned with balsamic vinegar. They did go down very well with the drinks. Out of the 3 dips.. one was with cucumber (is that a Mediterranean vegetable??) with sour cream and finished with some olive oil & basil. It was fantastic and i asked for a second helping.
oh!! did i forgot to mention that they had a live band and the guy singing was very good albeit a bit loud. But thats fine. And if you choose.. they have a pool side service.. but that was quite noisy with spill over crowd from some parties that were being hosted. The decor inside is quite nice & airy and the tall ceiling adds to the space around you.
Coming back to the food.. we ordered Risotto with mushrooms for myself and Roesti for my wife. The Risotto was good... the consistency just right... starchy without too much sauce. but the mushrooms overwelhmed the taste of the rice and the sauce. But i liked it. But the best was the roesti (could'nt resist digging into my wife's place :-)... the potato / onion pancake just done right and finished with nice pumpkin sauce. The strong taste of the roesti offset by the milder pumpkin sauce.. it was good. They had some vegetables on the side.. but i was disappointed with the quantity of them. And by this time the restaurant filled up.. which is always a good sign that the food is good there. We ordered a Apple & Hazelnut crisp for Dessert.... it was nice. Apple pie and Hazel nut infused crisps on top with vanilla icecream. I would have preferred it warm.
The service was good. The waiters always hovering around without being overbearing and they were all friendly. More inportantly they did not hurry us.
They had otherstuff on the menu like Pizzas, Pastas etc.. but we did not venture into that area. The wallet factor was 2500 bucks for 2 people with Drinks / appetizers / Main course & Dessert.
All in all a good experience. Go there if you feel like splurging some money and have some good time with people close to you.
Indigo
Submitted by gaurav on Thu, 15/02/2007 - 14:58. Mumbai | Elite Restaurant | Continental | Italian | Mediterranean | Must Visit | Rich and FamousRest : Indigo
Meal : Dinner
Date : 14/2/2007
Location :Colaba, next to Cotton World behind the Taj
Company : Ze Wife
Experience- Indigo is set in an old bungalow and it has its own charm. The place is cosy, comfy, dimly lit and crowded. We walked in were seated right away and we saw Rahul Akerkar at the bar, which means he was cooking. Good Stuff!
Drink :Water, Virgin Mary, Grover Shiraz
Food : We started with the potato porcini soup which we shared. The soup was good but slightly bland, but once we added some black pepper it hit the sweet spot. Light, interesting taste.
The first course was the asparagus and fennel salad which was a valentine day special, very weak, the taste was bland but saved by the cheese. The mushroom and feta salad was on the money, great taste, the textures of the mushrooms complemented by the sourish feta.
Second course was Black bean tortellini in shiraz wine sauce, excellent, tasty, different and then you bite into a black bean which is another taste, sweetish but def on the money. Another valentine day special pasta was their ravioli, which not as good as the black bean was def on the tasty side. Both entrees were creamy which made the meal heavy
They serve a good selection of bread, but their house onion bread is a bit too oily for my taste.
The drinks were fabulous, they didn't have the sula Shiraz so i went for the grover Shiraz which is just as good (about 95% similar to the sula Shiraz)
Also, for those that recall my post looking for the best bloody mary in the world. my friends, head down to the indigo and feast yourself on their nugget. its a bit on the spicier side, but man its so full of taste.
Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to have the dessert (the creme brulee i was wanting) as we were quite full. Next time surely
The service was some of the best ive had a whole three generations ahead of their bastard sibling Indigo deli.

The waffles with Maple Syrup are YUUUMM! So are the Omlettes.. they have a Spinach and Mushroom Omlette and Cheese and Mushroom Omlette. Amazing muffins. The Breakfast Combos are great.
They serve huge mugs of coffee with every breakfast combo... beats a CCD coffee anyday :)
They also have an unbelieveable collection of comic books. Some of them are really old editions..found a lot Tintin books that I leafed through. Great place to spend a Sunday morning.
A must visit place. They are closed on Monday though

Submitted by gaurav on Tue, 19/12/2006 - 18:14. Mumbai | Colaba | Restaurant | Italian | Mediterranean | ThaiDesigned like Indigo Deli an enjoyable place, you feel like you might be in Brooklyn by the looks of it.
They have a decent selection of soups but i got a medit sandwich. Falafal was kind of hard, the hummus was tasty, the whole package worked well. Unfortunately the size isnt nearly filling.
They serve overnbaked potato as a side. However it is not the kind served in steakhouses or Arbys Stateside. It is chopped potato with spices on it. Which was super dissapointing.
The pasta was the same as the one i had last time, but i forgot to ask them to hold the olives, which dropped the taste down a few notches. It was still quite tasty but not near as heavenly as last time. The bread on the side continues to be the onion laced focaccia. I would much prefer a bread basket.
The Damage was around 800.

Submitted by gaurav on Tue, 19/12/2006 - 17:50. Mumbai | Parel | Coffee Shop | American | Indian | Italian | Mediterranean | Open 24 hours | Rich and FamousThe best 5 star coffee shop in the city as of now. Expansive menu with multiple options across the cuisine lines.
Anyway we got this veggie Kebab platter thing which is paneer, bread, tikkaish sauce, small cups of biryani, salan and raita. Fantastic little thing this. Great taste, for the accompaniements, the paneer itself was soft, velvety, very good.
Mushroom Wrap, not very interesting, it was tasty but just no real love, it came with a tomato sauce which didnt help it much.
Lasagna, not bad actually, tasty, tangy, enough veggies but the pasta layers itself were very tasty. Nice stuff.
The drinks were terrible. The Lime soda was ok, the bloody mary served with no ice, tasted below par, the Margarita was just plain BAD. they dont know how to make drinks over at ITC.
Service itself was slow, menus took a while, drinks too longer, the chaps were polite and nodded, but didnt understand much it seems.
So it is a great place for food but drinks are terrible as is the service as is the location.
Our meal cost us around 2900 (2 cocktails, one soft drink, 3 entrees)
Cafe Ivy
Submitted by gaurav on Tue, 19/12/2006 - 17:47. Mumbai | Worli | Restaurant | Indian | Italian | Mediterranean | AffordableCafe Ivy has been started to promote wine consumption and the pricing def makes you want to try more than one. The food itself is mostly Italian with some Indian options. You have pasta, biryanis as well as some interesting sandwiches.
The place itself is quite small, not for more than 25 but its well designed and they have seating on the outside too. The have a wide range of wines available by the glass as well as by the bottle.
The food isnt bad at all, i heard some bad reviews but i decided to try it out anyway. The Bruschetta (2 pieces for 50 bucks) is amongst the best i have had ANYWHERE. The pasta is ok, the aglio olio wasnt too bad (with REAL feta) while the Arrabiatta was a bit sweet spicyish
The following are the Wines by the Glass and most of them were quite good.
Chantilli Sauvignon Blanc (95 rs) Ivy Shiraz (140rs)
Ivy Brut Sparkling(150rs) they also have Pompadour (175rs)
The total check was 1000 bucks with 500 for food and 500 for drinks. Not a bad place and worth a go.
Indigo Deli
Submitted by gaurav on Tue, 19/12/2006 - 17:18. Mumbai | Colaba | Cafe | Continental | Italian | Mediterranean | Desserts | Must VisitIndigo Deli is an off shoot of the famous Indigo which is a short walk away. This is a bit more toned down less experimentive but still excellent restaurant.
Its created to be like a New York Deli and it works quite well. Equal parts casual, comfortable yet stylish.
The menu is extensive and you can choose from breakfast items Eggs,Waffles, Pancakes (150-250)Soup (200) Salads (200-250) to Pasta to Pizza.
I would highly reommend just about everything on the menu, the pasta is spectacular especially the spagetti as are the pancakes. The salads come with a balsamic vinegariette dressing which really magnifies the taste. The pizza is highly likeable but i personally dont like it very much, its almost papad like.
Drinks are just general, nothing too dramatic or new though i think 100bucks for fresh orange juice is criminal.
The desserts are varied, tiramisu, cheesecake, mousse, all excellent.
Overall, i have been here multiple times and i think the food is excellent, the menu is extensive and eclectic enough to have something for everone.
The service can be quite wanting sometimes as they can be painfully slow sometimes. Seating can also be difficult even at 4pm on a weekday. However the waitstaff is courteous and accomodating if you are nice as well.
Pricing is on the high side (not 5 star coffee shop high) i would reckon a meal for 2 without alcohol to be between 600-800.
Describe the place. As long as you want. Include some food/drink tips, what not to miss, what to avoid, etc.
A rating based on one visit might be misleading - try and keep things fact-based. Remember, we are a hitchhiker's guide to eating and drinking.

Submitted by mumbai_cha_mulga on Sun, 10/12/2006 - 20:30. Khar | Restaurant | MediterraneanAn expensive restaurant in the tony Union Park neighborhood of Khar. Serves indian version of mediterranean food. Has an extensive list of (expensive) cocktails and liquors. Serves brunch on Sunday.
The food is not great, considering the price tag. The waiters can be snobbish as is the clientele (mostly foreigners, wannabe page-3 crowd, and Bollywood D-listers).
