Parsi
Ideal Corner
Submitted by cnb on Mon, 24/10/2005 - 17:50. Mumbai | Fort | Restaurant | Parsi | AffordableIt's one of the last remaining small quaint Parsi food places in the mould of the old Cafe Mocambo.
We had the following dishes among the two of us and the bill came to 157 only.
Akuri
- It's the Parsi version of scrambled eggs / bhurji. Usually served on toast (according to the
- Excellent. Had with pao.
Chicken Sali
- The sweetish gravy was off-putting at first but in the end I was wiping the plate clean of the gravy with my Pao.
Mutton Cutlet
- Not too good. Wouldn't recommend.
Bread Pudding
- YUMM
Chocolate Mousse
- YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
- Maybe it was the distinct presence of Old Monk in the mousse ;-)
Cafe Paradise
Submitted by solzaire on Fri, 15/04/2005 - 12:03. Mumbai | Colaba | Cafe | Restaurant | Snack Joint | Chinese | Continental | ParsiCafe Paradise is an old and famous Parsi eating joint in Colaba. It used to be a nice little place but has recently been done up into a swanky a/c place. No matter - the Parsi food is still very good. Paradise is on Colaba Causeway on the left after the petrol pumps.
They have a chinese menu too though no one I know has ever ordered chinese here. They have good soups, snacks, sandwiches and the like. The pick of the lot and the thing worth going there for are the daily Parsi specials. Sali Marghi, Saali Boti, Dhanshaak, Papeta ma Gosht etc.; all the usual suspects are available. Each costs about 100 rupees, suffices one person, and availability changes daily.
The usual standard Dukes Raspberry and Lagaan-nu-custard are there too. they have a good selection of deserts.
Britannia
Submitted by solzaire on Tue, 12/04/2005 - 10:58. Mumbai | Ballard Estate | Restaurant | Snack Joint | Indian | Parsi | Must Visit
Cafe Britannia itself looks like a rundown restaurant in the streets of Ballard Estate. One way of getting there is to go straight down Ballard Estate from the Sir P.M.Road, Bharat Lunch Home junction. It is in a bylane 5 mins. down the street to your left. Britannia and Co. High Class Restaurant - the board beckons.
The Berry Pulao here is very famous. It is essentially like a Chicken/Mutton Biryani, with lots of freid onions, some cutlet pieces, and lots and lots of berries (cranberries I think). One Pulao is more than enough for a person. It is simply amazing - we all absolutely loved it.
After three Pulaos, the six of us were stuffed - we couldn't order anything more from this inviting menu. We did manage the compulsory Dukes Raspberrys, Caramel Custards, and a chicken cutlet.
For some reason, we didn't get a better shot of the caramel.
The rooster is kind of the mascot of the place. We flipped over the tissue paper. "There is no love greater than the love of eating".
I loved the area - quaint gora-saahab time buildings, empty roads (on a Sunday). Here are all of us after Arun joined us, wondering where to go next. We went on to Yazdani for Brun-Maska, Apple pie, and chai.Parvara
Submitted by harshal on Mon, 28/03/2005 - 20:15. Pune | Kondhwa | Restaurant | Parsi | Punjabi | Affordable | Part of a chainThis place is a part of the ABC farms chain. Located close to Kondhwa, fatima nagar and Salunkhe vihar
this place caters to a mixed crowd from seasoned foodies to first timers.
It is a part garden restaurant (the "Garden" is actually just a tree shade under which you have 3-4 tables). This place can accomodate approx. 25-30 ppl.
The food here is authentic Parsi with the Menu itself showing the authenticity...
it contains a brief history of the Parsi culture and food habits...
also they have special dishes every week-day. Apart from the regular dhanshak fare they serve veri nice Farcha chicken which is marinated chicken leg deep fried in egg-coating.
In the main course my pick is the Atheli Marghi which is chicken made in tangy curd gravy with lots of coriander powder which gives it a unique taste. This i'd say is one of the best things this place has to offer.
Dorabjees
Submitted by solzaire on Sat, 19/03/2005 - 10:42. Pune | Main Street | Restaurant | Indian | ParsiSachapir Street (I think) should be called 'West Street'. Dorabjee's restaurant is in the middle near Technical Book Shop.
The food is good Parsi food and good biryanis. Try any of the usual Parsi items. Good value for money.
Cafe Mocambo
Submitted by solzaire on Fri, 18/02/2005 - 20:58. Mumbai | Fort | Bar | Cafe | Restaurant | Snack Joint | Continental | Italian | Parsi | DessertsCafe Mocambo is now apparently run by Cafe Churchill people. This is unconfirmed.
Nontheless they have very good Continental and Parsi food. The lamb and steak are especially nice. The lasagna is too cheesy. The bar is decent. Parsi stuff is good. There are two levels of seating. They have the standard fridge displaying yummy deserts. Would like to see the cake slices become larger. Many phirangs usually hang out here.
Sassanian Boulangerie
Submitted by solzaire on Fri, 18/02/2005 - 17:57. Mumbai | Marine Lines | Bakery | Restaurant | Snack Joint | Chinese | Indian | Irani | Parsi | AffordableA very old and famous instiution like and Irani joint. Serves good Parsi food. The national influence of Indian-Chinese food has crept in here too. None the less most people consider this to be very good. The attached bakery has yummy treat and Lagaan-nu-custard to take home or eat.
In one exceptional experience (an anomaly I am told), the mutton cutlets were reheated (and left partially cold), and the roast chicken was actually in a standard Chinese manchurian sauce.
