Cafe Appetite
Submitted by rimplejain on Fri, 09/10/2009 - 13:00. Andheri | Restaurant | Chinese | Italian | Affordable | Must Visit-Venue : Cafe Appetite
Bhagat Singh Colony
Andheri Link Road
Chakala
When : Sunday Dinner on 4th October,09
Decor : The location is good.If the owner removes the glass doors, it would remind you of eateries in Paris/ Italy. The decor is OK.Yelow coloured it walls is something I personally dislike. But, many restaurants keep it that way.The seating is comfortable, not too lavish. Just chairs and tables in sets of twos and fours.
Experience:
It was raining heavily. And, it being a Sunday ritual to go out for dinner I searched the internet for something new and closeby.Came across Cafe Appetite an Indo Italian Indo Chinese restaurant. So off we went. Its a small restaurant run by a husband and wife.He is a friendly Sardar guy lets call him Mr. Singh who goes personally to every customer and asks about the order, food, likes & dislikes etc. Takes an interest with what you order. And lets you know of his journey from the beginning.
We ordered a Tomato & Basil Soup priced at Rs 60/-
The aroma of the soup was something. The consistency was good ,not very watery. The basil leaves were quite fresh. It was also liked the family.
For starters we wanted something which the baby would like. As, she eats the main course very meagre.
The owner suggested Garlic Bread with Cheese again at Rs. 60/-
Yes, yum it was! The bread ,we were told, is baked by the restaurant themselves. It was a herb and garlic bread. The garlic was not too strong as is found at many places. So, was loved by the baby even.
The main course was farfalle in Alfredo pasta
It was a creamy pasta. The only negative was the oil. The olive oil used in the pasta for two was enough for a pasta for four. The owner explained that he needs to emulsify the pasta in the end.Anyways, the layers of taste which should come out were subdued because of the oil.
They have a variety of desi pastas too. But, I think no one can beat them at joints like Bombay Blues etc.
Next, We ordered a Triple Shezchuan Rice for the brother at home.
That too was good enough.Quite spicy as it should be.The quantity was enough for two.One can get good chinese at many places in Mumbai. It would be good when they serve it fiery hot.
Overall the food was good but for the excess oil in pasta. The shezuan was very generic in its taste. The sop and starters were excellent. And, it being recently opened you get a table without hassles even on a Sunday.
I would suggest the restaurant menu should have more of desi stuff. The owner promised me some good kebabs when i visit him next.
Hope, he has more options for vegeterians like me by then.
Price: Rs. 350/- for 2
Stick to the dum biryani only
Submitted by rshankar on Tue, 09/10/2007 - 12:42. Andheri | Restaurant | Indian | Affordabledecent atmosphere -
with a band thrown in !!..(one vocalist and one keyboardist-cum-guitarist) they apparently perform till 11.
la carte menu is not that lavish.
saturday nites they have a minitte buffet for 225.. might be worth a try..
We went on a sunday nite. there was a regular buffet for 400.. the spread was not sooo appealing..
so we settled for the DUM VEG BIRYANI (VDB) for 140.. It was :
- steaming hot !
- fairly filling for two people.
- pretty well made.. definitely not bad.. I hate biryanis soaking in oil/grease/lard.. this one was thankfully not like that..
- the raita that came along was woefully sour..
VDB was supposed to come in a 'handi'. But it came in a ceramic pot instead.. Mirador's 'idea'/ interpretation of a 'handi' is not convicing / appealing.. :-(
There is no THAI food.. considering the ubiquitous rice-green veg curry is a mumbai favorite :-(
Avoid the pizzas. for 170 bucks they serve you small pizzas of six inches diameter.. I was dumbstruck.. such a big hotel serving such a small one..
the service is decent.
the drinks menu is not that impressive.. u might strike a bargain during the happy hours UPTO 10 pm.
Rating: 5.5/10 for VDB only
else , it is 4/10 !!

Submitted by Anaggh on Wed, 26/09/2007 - 12:38. Mumbai | Andheri | Restaurant | Indian | Mughlai | Punjabi | Must VisitA family restaurant, that has been in existence since the time lokhandwala complex came up. Been a visitor since 1993. Earlier they served chinese & mish mash. After their renovation some years ago, it is only punjabi, indian & a couple of moughlai dishes. Reasonably large, with enough space between tables & open till 1 am in the night. Home delivery is prompt & efficient. Afternoon Buffet is OK, but can be avoided.
The vegetarian spread is pretty nice, with some good off the menu dishes being offered. The chef ensures that he listens to the requirements & different dishes HAVE different gravies & taste.
The rotis are made out of wheat & not maida. The stuff kulcha, have real mixed stuffing & not only aloo.
Deserts are standard Kulfi, gulab jamun but combining them is a good bet.
Masala Mantar
Submitted by spareribs150 on Sun, 12/08/2007 - 10:44. Andheri | Elite Restaurant | Punjabi | Rich and FamousGREAT PLACE GREAT FOOD GREAT AMBIENCE AND ABOVE ALL GREAT PEOPLE. WONDER HOW THEY MANAGE AN EVER SMILING FACE WITH SO MUCH OF CUSTOMER PRESSURE.
THE NEWLY OPENED PARTY LOUNGE IS ALSO COZY AND CAN ACCOMODATE AROUND 100 PEOPLE.
YET ANOTHER CLASSY OFFERING FROM THE OWNERS OF URBAN TAADKA.
Kobe Sizzlers
Submitted by Ajai Bathija on Sat, 28/07/2007 - 11:32. Mumbai | Andheri | Restaurant | Sizzlers | Part of a chainOf all the Kobe chain of sizzler restaurants, the Andheri west branch is my favourite...
Start with the chicken or veg. cocktail and move on to either sizzlers or the great sandwiches, burgers/pizza..
A word of warning - the pizza's are not the mozarella cheese ones but the ones you get at the south indian restaurants (oddly, i prefer these to the Italian ones!).
The ice-tea is great too. End your meal with sizzling brownie with ice-cream & hot choc sauce served on a sizzler platter...
Pricing is average. Meal portions - generous. Service - Great.
And the best part, no huge queue and wait time for tables like Yoko Sizzlers!
Kalinga
Submitted by Ajai Bathija on Sat, 28/07/2007 - 11:20. Andheri | Restaurant | Must VisitRight next to SAB TV office and near Fame Adlabs Andheri, Kalinga is one great place which always lives up to expectations and more!
A pre-dominantly vegetarian place on the lines of Shiv Sagar and Shabri, Kalinga serves better food than quite a few of it's competitors.
Try the crunchy medu-vada with un-limited sambhar and 2 kinds of chutney (coconut and tomato based).
The dosas too are pretty consistent - have been there numerous times and they are as tasty as ever.
Kalinga has some good Punjabi and Veg Chinese food too..Service is excellent and pricing affordable. They have an outdoor and indoor (a/c) section...Try the indoor, it's great ambience with value for money..
Beware, don't try and land up on a sat or sunday nite - unless u are going really early... It's totally packed..Best time for a relaxed meal - early noon - around 11.30 - 12.00 or late evenings - 7.00 - 8.30 pm when it is not very crowded...
Curry Twist
Submitted by rshankar on Tue, 03/04/2007 - 20:55. Mumbai | Andheri | Bar | Gujarati | Indian | Punjabi | Thai | AffordableVery nice decor and ambience. The place was very clean with no paint smell renting the air. Attentive staff.
This place calls itself a VEG RESTOBAR. Pure Vegetarian Resto and a Bar.
The BAR part is best avoided. The bloody mary was barely a gulpful; so was the screwdriver.
The RESTO part is decent. The quantity of the dishes was surprisingly filling and a bit more. (We had to request the waiter to pack some leftovers !) Not something I have come across in many restaurants, where the portions are measly.
Do try the hariyali pulav and the guj/marwari kadhi. It is a satisfying experience.
Order 2 dishes and 3 people can eat heartily.
The loo-s and washrooms (both ladies/gents) were very CLEAN. kudos.
Dum Pukth
Submitted by gaurav on Tue, 19/12/2006 - 18:05. Mumbai | Andheri | Elite Restaurant | Indian | Rich and FamousDum Pukth is the signature ITC reatuarant it has a very classy decor, very comfortable seating, the service is attentive and friendly however the restaurant didnt seem very busy.
We ordered the thandai for a drink it was excellent. We opted to avoid appetizers and soups and go straight to the food as dum pukth cooking is very heavy.
We got the paneer in tomato gravy, excellent, succulent paneer, lightish gravy. great taste. The Dal Makhani was excellent with a distincitve taste, very well done.
The Naan, which was ok (no one makes the Naan like Masala Kraft at Taj) then the Biryani, which was average (ive had better at Shamiana and Palms) with garlic raita. Overall the meal was good but short of excellent due to the weak biryani and okayish Naan.
The pricing is on the very expensive side around 1800 for our meal there and one can safely expect to spend atleast 1500 for two people.
