Summary: The high-class Parsi eating joint with Berry Pulao
Description: The Bombay On The Menu workshop gang met on Saturday at Cafe Britannia in Ballard Estate. We were Antoine, Rachel, Rushina, Neha, Arun, freegeek, and me. Cafe Britannia is one of the oldest, most famous Parsi joints in the city. The old man sitting at the counter, over 80 years old, is a legend representing the Irani/Parsi restauranteur community in the city. The restaurant is open from 11am to 4pm only - so don't plan a dinner there. It is mdoerately priced at about 100-170 per dish which is enough for one person. It is probably closed on Sundays - not sure. Cafe Britannia itself looks like a rundown restaurant in the streets of Ballard Estate. One way of getting there is to go straight down Ballard Estate from the Sir P.M.Road, Bharat Lunch Home junction. It is in a bylane 5 mins. down the street to your left. Britannia and Co. High Class Restaurant - the board beckons. The Berry Pulao here is very famous. It is essentially like a Chicken/Mutton Biryani, with lots of freid onions, some cutlet pieces, and lots and lots of berries (cranberries I think). One Pulao is more than enough for a person. It is simply amazing - we all absolutely loved it. After three Pulaos, the six of us were stuffed - we couldn't order anything more from this inviting menu. We did manage the compulsory Dukes Raspberrys, Caramel Custards, and a chicken cutlet. For some reason, we didn't get a better shot of the caramel. The rooster is kind of the mascot of the place. We flipped over the tissue paper. "There is no love greater than the love of eating". I loved the area - quaint gora-saahab time buildings, empty roads (on a Sunday). Here are all of us after Arun joined us, wondering where to go next. We went on to Yazdani for Brun-Maska, Apple pie, and chai.
