Victor Palace

| | | | | | | | | | | |
Summary: Hotel in Kolhapur, with multi cuisine restaurants, coffee shop, swimming pool, disc
Description:

One of the better hotels in Kolhapur but now seems to be going down in service levels and mostly living off the name it's created.

It has a couple of restaurants, a Pub/Bar, a Coffee Shop + Swimming Pool area and a discotheque.

Stayed there for 2 days but only had the breakfast buffet at the Coffee Shop which was just ok, decent food to start off your day but nothing to write home about.

Room service was quick and efficient but the air conditioning was poor. Everything else was at acceptable levels.

Well with the room rates around those of a budget hotel in Bombay, it's a pretty decent deal but most people I spoke to suggested Hotel Pearl as the better and cheaper alternative.

Beach

| | |
Summary: Beach theme drinking joint, open early evenings
Description:

We - me and my cousin - went there as we found that this place is a much cheaper alternate to TGIF. When you want to drink at 5:30 in the evening (back home at 8:00, no police and wife problems. Drinks? - you never had any!!),there are not may places around except for the hole in the wall bar & restaurants. Other places are empty or loud or both.

At the Beach, prices are reasonable, they have happy hours for drinks in the evenings, the staff is friendly (not the Manager). The food is okay, not great. When we complained that the Chicken is way too spicy, we got an exchange immediately. That I think is good service. Until about 7:30 PM. At 7:30 PM the Manager found that two of us are occupying a table for four, kept on reminding us to get out of the place as there are guests waiting.

Geoffrey's

|
Summary: Pub trying to please the corporate & the hip crowd
Description:

Great cocktails...try their Geoffrey's version of long island ice tea, frozen daiquiri (i like the base to be vodka). They have different variations of the cocktails and they are good. They have cuban cigars.. and i have heard that they r good from my friends who smoke (cant figure why someone would pay 650 bucks to burn a stick and in the process screw your health!!)

Anyway food is good... but bloody expensive. A south indian platter costs u 1300 bucks...come on guys you are not even a 5 star to charge the ridiculous prices.

Coming to ambience.. the deck up is classic british pub style and the clientiele is corporaty. But wait.... why then play house / trance or other dinkchak numbers... to try and create ambience for the hip crowd?? Sincere suggestion... please reinvent yourself by adopting one position and may be conduct regular corportate / biz quizzes to be different.

They had this ridiculous rule some years back that you can enter without shoes (btw the chennai Geoffrey's still has it... so wear shoes on Lungi and go to gain admission).

cheers
Anand

Jukebox

| | | |
Summary: Old pub
Description:

It's a pub but don't go here for the music. Some vague inaudible elevator type music plays in the background.

The Sizzlers and steaks are what people seemed to be having here. We only had one pitcher of beer and Fish Fingers with Tartar sauce which was very average.

May go there again if someone can suggest some good dishes to redeem this place.

Windsor Pub

| | | | | | |
Summary: Fantastic beer & fish / pork / beef place
Description:

Getting there : Take the road opposite to Dr. Ambedkar Bhavan on the Millers road and you will find this place on your right hand side.

This is a awesome beer only joint that serves a medley of food. But best known for their fish / pork / beef dishes. Have the above as fries for starters and as curries for main course with dosa / kerala parotha / appams.

The music is doors / pink floyd / CCR.. .catch the drift??? Frequented by college crowd and the offices on Cunnigham road. Can seat about 30 people... so can be difficult to find a place if you are late. If you dont like smoky joints.. this place can get a bit painful.

Perhaps one of the very few places like this on this part of the town.

Coco Grove

| | |
Summary: Beer, steaks, sandwiches, burgers, church street
Description:

On Church Street, Coco Grove has two sections.

1.) A road side pub. Designed in a post modern manner. White all around. The decor doesn't really suit it's street side presence but the whole thing seems to work out quite well.

2.) A retro indian designed restobar with a very high ceiling.

Neither of these sections are air conditioned but you don't really need that in Bangalore. Both sections are very airy and spacious.

The menu consists of sandwiches, burgers and steaks. Quite a limited choice. Food is not very spicy. I think it's more geared to the firang expats taste who seemed to be there in abundance.

I wouldn't really suggest this place for it's food when Empire and Queens are on either side of it but it's quite a nice quiet place to hang around with some friends for a chat.

A draught mug is 60 and a pitcher about 265. You have various cocktails (with very little alcohol) for 150 each and mocktails for Rs.100 each.

Apache

| | |
Summary: Pub with good cheap food at FC Road
Description:

Apache is probably the only place in India where a chicken sandwich is cheaper than a veg sandwich and for good reason. It is co-owned by Kingfisher and Venky's. Therefore you get beer as well as food quite cheap there.

Their beer cocktail pitchers are unique. They are beer with a whole lot of other hard liqour spirits mixed into them. Else beer and hard liqour by the peg is pretty cheap by Pub rates.

They start playing rock only around 9PM so going there earlier is a really bad idea.

The crowd is usually a very young college crowd.

Pegs and Pints

| | |
Summary: A pub/disc type thing near Chanakya Theatre in Chanakya Puri, Delhi.
Description:

I hung around waiting there for people to arrive. Plays Bollywood Music which I don't mind but I got bored listening to Himesh Reshammiya.

Sairee told me this is probably one of the afternoon discs where the college crowd hangs out.

Well, costly place. Wouldn't really go back there unless I'm staying in Chanakya Puri again and bored.
